Creative Learning Through Self Expression, Art, & Culture
Beats and Lyrics is an edutainment-based, creative learning and development program created by Reality Check as a platform to address and mitigate the real life challenges often experienced by today’s student population. During the program students are introduced to the inner workings of the music industry which serves as the backdrop for problem solving, dealing with extreme difficulties and as a guide to encourage intelligent decision making.
The program consists of four primary components: mentorship; open discussion; original content creation; and community-wide outreach. Each component is integral to student success and designed to build confidence, assist in social development, highlight self expression and introduce new skills to the participating group.

Pass That GEE.
Featuring: Burnell Taylor, Treety & Students Of Sara T. Reed High School.
The Pass That GEE song and music video was created to reduce anxiety students often feel as they prepare to take the State’s standardized test known as the GEE. The test holds an immense amount of weight on determining if students would be able to pass to the next grade or graduate.

Burnell Taylor
2011 Beats and Lyrics Student, American Idol Top 10 Contestant
Before competing at the highest level on season 12 of American Idol, Burnell Taylor was a student in Reality Check’s Beats and Lyrics program. He went on to make it to the top ten and ultimately finished in seventh place. He credits a large part of his success and the ability to share his gift with millions through the American Idol platform to the Beats and Lyrics program. As his journey continues, he maintains a close relationship with the Reality Check organization.

Stop The Violence
The students at Sara T. Reed created a song to promote the “Stop The Violence Movement”. Activities like these represent the core of our youth engagment and provide a place where the student serve as advocates a positive message reachig other in their peer group and community.
